Who We Are
The idea for Vermi Waste was inspired by the humble earthworm who - through its very existence - improves the soil it lives in.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide composting offerings and environmental education throughout metro Atlanta. We do this by developing relationships and leveraging resources within our community with the purpose of building sustainable food systems.
Our Values
The Logic of Nature: Composting has the potential to be an essential component of our local ecologies. We believe that ecological wisdom should guide our company’s strategy, planning, and operations.
Community Collaboration: Composting has the potential to bring together people of various backgrounds and passions. We believe that members of our community are our partners and collaborators who can contribute meaningfully to this work - not merely customers.
Passionate Curiosity: Composting has the potential to teach us about ecology and ourselves. We believe that our approach to this work must include a deep desire to learn new things.
Justice: Composting has the potential to restore and regenerate our soils. In a similar vein, we believe that our company must work towards justice for all - specifically, the restoration of Black and all oppressed people as well as the regeneration of our environment.
Our Social Thrusts
Vermi Waste is a social enterprise, which is a kind of organization that seeks to drive social change through its business model. Our social mission has the following 3 thrusts:
Environmental education for all: educating our neighbors about the importance of environmental practices, especially the next generation of environmental stewards
Wasted resource prevention and recovery: encouraging the adoption of composting and zero waste practices by eliminating logistical and financial barriers
Local community development: contributing to the sustainable development of our local communities
In addition to our work in these thrusts, we partner with VISE, a project fiscally hosted by Open Collective Foundation that aims to “equip students in metro ATL with the resources and education needed to build sustainable food systems”. 2% percent of the sales from all services and products is donated to VISE to help in this mission.
